    THEORETICAL COURSE Duration : 1h (recognized by OMVQ) Target audience: open to all DESCRIPTION This continuing education course, in the form of a video conference, introduces you to the genetics of cat coloration . Whether you are a cat breeder or an animal lover, you will learn many fascinating as well as practical aspects about the genes involved in the colors and color patterns of cats, about the heredity of these genes and about the interactions these genes have with each other. This course is presented by Labgenvet, which is a comprehensive website designed to provide veterinarians and breeders with a reliable source of scientific, practical, and accessible information on pet genetics. TOPICS COVERED Revision of genetic principles Genes for basic colors Genes of modification of basic colors Genes, color patterns Genes, white spots Short, long hair Practical examples INSTRUCTOR  David Silversides    Dr. David Silversides graduated in biochemistry and reproductive physiology from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon.  Since 1990 he has been a professor, researcher and teacher at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Montreal in St-Hyacinthe. For many years he has taught the course on genetics to veterinary students.  In 2017, with the contributions of volunteers and students from the first to the fifth year of the veterinary program, he created the Labgenvet website ( www.labgenvet.ca ). This website is a free information resource on pet genetics designed for veterinarians, animal health technicians, and veterinary students, and is also relevant to breeders, pet owners, and even the general public around the world.
